oranges with thick skin

i used to ate eating oranges. i think it was because i used to bite my nails and finger-skin, so whenever i peeled orange, the citric juices stung my wounds. i've recently taken up eating a lot more fruits now because of this diet thing, and oranges is one of my favs now.

however, i'm still not so good at picking out the perfect navel oranges. i like oranges that have thick spongy skin that just peel off easily. since it's thick and stuff, the moisture retains in the orange, keeping it juicy, yet with a very nice shelf life. usually i'm lucky enough to find this specimen of oranges, but about 2 weeks back i bought 2 oranges from ralph's and they were awful. they had thin skin and was a horror to peel. to add to that, their flesh was all tight and knotted up. the flavor was not as sweet as i like also. it took me awhile to eat them, just cuz after the first one, i didn't want to eat the second one. and i dont like to buy oranges when i still have them.

the other fruit i eat a lot of are apples. they're just filling and yummy and easy to eat! relatively cheap also. i've also taken up avocados, cuz i realize i need some healthy fats in my diet. i don't like them plain because they're so... bland. so i was looking online about how people eat them, and people put seasoning salt and tabasco and lime juice on it! soooo good that way! i'm salivating just thinking about it!

i have grapes in the freezer. if i have a craving for ice cream, i'll just pluck a grape.

but i'm really not that anal about stuff. i had a good amount this weekend. i still drink a lot. monday i went to work with a hangover because i tend to drink more with people i trust (i was out with liberty on sunday night). last nite i had a big glass of white wine. no pain, no hangover, i feel good. i think i'll do the wine thing from now on.

going out, bowling, avocados, and lemonade

i know usually when i have these compilation entries, i have 3 items that i address in the title. this one has four. i feel eccentric today.

i've been going out more. went clubbing the last two weekends. always not being able to resist the 6pm drink @ work, especially nearing the weekends. like i have no problem not wanting alcohol at home now, it's just that when i'm in a social environment, i have this tendency to drink until i've decided that i've spent too much. i haven't been like TRASHED in a long time, so i dont' drink out of control. just often, and enough to really put a dent in my diet. oh, this monday, i hung out with justin (current bf) and gabriel (ex) at the same time. we played pool. it turned out well to my surprise! u just need some cool levelheaded people. i drank 3 bacardi and diets that day. and i drank 3 miller lights yesterday night, because...

i made a new friend! she's like the only girl friend i've kinda made in awhile. but she's pretty down to earth and funny. we're all going out again on saturday with a big group of people. it'll be fun! oh, we went bowling last nite. we both are not so good at it, especially when alcohol is there. i was such a champ, one instance, i bowled 3 sets of gutterballs, meaning SIX gutterballs in a row! so i drank 3 beers cuz i was gonna only drink 2, but the last one, he thought we ordered 2 beers, so we just accepted it. and i drank both cuz she had wine and she was driving us to food later. i had a turkey burger, no special sauce. fruit instead of fries. i love burgers of all kinds. yum.

i always thought avocados were boring. sure they were creamy and nice when put into a sweet shake, but i never really contemplated eating them by itself, cuz i thought it was too bland. but i did some more reading into the benefits of the good fats from avocados, and i thought i'd try out one of the ways to eat it that i found. so you add a little seasoning salt, a little lemon juice, and a dash of tabasco, and you just scoop and eat. i had 2oz of avocado this morning with that method. it was DELICIOUS. i can't believe i've never had it like that before. i think imma make avocado part of my daily diet now.

and one of my favorite places to read, slashfood, mentioned something about the maple syrup diet. i know my dad did something like that before, so i read more into it. i think i'm really tempted to try it because i feel oily lately if i eat anything that's not super healthy. i was gonna do it this morning after my avocado, but then at work, we got baja fresh for lunch. i couldln't resist. then i had some beef jerky (fat free), then tonight i'm having my super healthy yet delicoius tuna melt. so i guess today is not an option. weekends are not option for this diet either. i think i will try it next week during the weekdays.

bowling for soup, death cab for cutie and liver

friday night was the bowling for soup show at the troubadour. i've liked them since "girl all the bad guys want" (cuz i guess i wanted to be that back in freshmen year in college.) i had no idea that they had so many albums prior to that! troubadour is truly an awesome venue, so small, and that loft area for you to just chill on sofas. justin wasn't feeling 100% cuz i think he ate something bad, and i kinda drank a lot that day, because i drank before i left work since it was friday night. anyway... bowling for soup is so fun! it's just like feel good music cuz it's so upbeat and simple lyrics! the only "famous" song i got to hear from them is "almost", we left at 11:30, cuz i felt bad making justin stay there when he wasn't feeling well. and i was getting tired anyway. "army of freshmen" opened for them, i bought their cd.

sunday night was the death cab for cutie show at the greek theater. first of all... their parking SUCKS. it's like stacked parking and i didn't know it was outdoors, and i had to trek through all this sandy area in my dress-ish shoes. however, once the show let out, it was pretty quick to get out of the parking lot, even with a ton of cars blocking us in. the venue is really nice. even the bathroom stalls had cup holders! seating was easy to figure out, the acoustics were awesome. the food selection were pretty good and reasonably priced. they had all sorts of alcohol. the spaciousness of the venue allowed for a lot of pot-smoking (not that i did any of course! i just smelled some =P). if only i did better research and realized it was an outdoor thing! then i wouldn't have to deal with the chilliness. i'm not a big fan of death cab, i basically bought tix cuz i knew justin liked them lots. but they're pretty good! and live music is always fun. not the walking through dirt to get to and from the car though.

i haven't had liver in awhile, and during our mini shopping excursion on saturday, we stopped by Art's Delicatessen because i saw the "since 1957" sign and i felt like diner food. i was so close to ordering the monte cristo sandwich when justin pointed out that they had grilled liver and onions. i LOVE the taste of liver and i haven't had it in so long. cuz it's not like something i knew how to prepare. i'm so glad i got that. there's something about the light bitter taste of liver, especially paired with grilled onions that make it so scrumptious! if only it wasn't so high in cholesterol. i don't wanna get gout (or whatever bobby got in that one episode of King of the Hill where he found this sandwich place he loved).

geekiness

so the menu to the left now features a thing that lists what i eat everyday. it's "my fitday". it's really boring. but at least it tells me where my calories are coming from.

so i took this test: http://innergeek.us/geek-test.html. i scored "30.17751% - Total Geek". boo-yah!
